In R. v. British Columbia the Province of British Columbia was charged with three counts under the federal Fisheries Act following a 1999 washout of a forest service road northeast of Prince George, British Columbia. The charges alleged the harmful alteration, disruption or destruction of fish habitat; unlawfully depositing or permitting the deposit of a deleterious substance into water frequented by fish; and failing to mitigate any adverse effects.
